a usb external drive
a desktop type, you get larger for the money. but comes with a psu to plug in
the portable type, just plug into usb,(no psu) but are smaller for the money
i prefer seagate, as they have been reliable for me
For USB 2. I like the Western Digital MyBooks (I have 2 and have had zero problems; supereasy; plug and go). If you have eSATA port, there are other options (see link).
Be advised USB 3. is coming out; look for it on your next computer.
i agree with fred i only use western digital external and pny,my book is good and passport is slim and hold a lot of data
