I purchased a new unlocked nec phone, but it would not work with my service. The company I purchased the?
phone from told me to call nec to get the correct gsm bandwiths. Well, I havenever been able to speak with a "live" person. The phone was a christmas present for my daughter, and she is soooo disappointed. Please can someone explain to me what to do to get this phone working? Thank you for your replies. Oh, I have Cingular phone service.
It's a bit hard since you have not listed the NEC model number. Cingular works on GSM850/1900 Mhz (which are the North American GSM bands)
If the phone you purchased is a European model that is
GSM900/1800 (dual band) - The phone will not work
GSM900/1800/1900 (tri-band) - The phone will work in Cingulars 1900mhz areas. If you are in a Cingular 850Mhz area, the phone will not work
GSM850/900/1800/1900 (quad-Band) Phone will work anyware in the world you have GSM service
Check your phones spec's against what I posted above, that might answer your question.
Anyother option would be in your phones menu, look for network settings to see if you can select the network manuqlly. if you have that, let the phone search for the availible GSM networks in your area. All else fails, email me the phones model and I can research it for you
Cheers
contact Cingular at http://www.cingular.com or call 1-800-331-0500 or 1-877-707-9204. I recently made the change. After listing to the
voice activated prompts, I was patched into two real live people who were able to handle the problem. Hope this helps.
