I am a 45 yr old male who just had his hip replaced. Is it nec. I take the 300mg of Iron prescribed to me?

   I’m sure it was prescribed for a reason. If you don’t want to for some reason, talk to your doctor about it. Don’t mess around with medication on the advice of people in an anonymous forum like this where anybody can pretend to be an expert on any subject.

   Well - you had blood loss with the surgery so your body is going to need to replace it. The iron will be used in the formation of hemoglobin which carries o2 on RBCs.

   So yes, unless you want to be anemic and have low blood volume, I would go ahead and take the iron.
