i have a nec versa 2400 laptop and i need to activate hard drive access through bios and i don't know what the password is.

There is no default password. If you bought this laptop used then you will need to get a hold of the person you bought it from and get the password from them. Otherwise you will have to contact NEC and have proof of ownership to have the password reset.
