Hey people,
I recently bought a new soundcard (Audiophile 2496) for recording music and just general better sound quality. I've installed it and everything (visually) works fine. BUT when playing music in itunes (or any other app) the sound is very choppy with any cpu stress.
I've trolled the internet for a solution but can't find any.
Things ive tried:

Updating sound and graphics drivers.
Disabling graphics card.
Disabling network adapters.
Disabling USB ports.
Switching PCI slots
Checked for any IRC conflicts.
Reinstalled windows.

I downloaded DCP latency checker and it is usually always in the red. I can't what is causing the latency anywhere.
When going back to my intergrated sound card the performance is better but I still have red spikes of latency every 4 seconds or so.

Its annoying me to the point where I feel like buying a new computer to see if it works on that.

Here are some details of my (old ass) computer.

basically i'm copying a project from a friend about computerizing a student management system.(making it from manual to database)
i need help with the hardware required.i have to change it a bit so its not obvious i'm copying here is wat he's written:
A Pentium iv 2.2 GHz
A 3.5" GENERIC NEC FLOPPY DISK DRIVE

HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-7500 to install necessary software
An NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 Ultra Display to act as an adapter to act as an interface with the monitor.
A standard 101/102Key keyboard
An Acer View 76 17" Monitor
Logitech First/Pilot mouse
An Hp Desk jet 850C

just try and replace them with something acceptable

also need reasons as 2 y this hardware is necessary in the context of the solution
dude i'm smart enuf 2 figure these out later.i hav 2 submit it tom.and i'm not gonna get asked about it thank u

It also says this on Sounds and Audio Devices properties:
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj109/justinpie91/asdasd.jpg?t=1281297171

I tried SIS 7012 PCI Audio Driver and also Realtek. Neither worked.

Here's a bit of info from a DirectX Diagnosis:

DirectX Files Tab: No problems found.
Display Tab 1: The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer. Direct3D functionality not available. You should verify that the driver is a final version from the hardware manufacturer.
Sound Tab 1: No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer.
Music Tab: No problems found.

As you may be able to tell it's an old PC (6 years), and the sound card is onboard, because I can see that from the back of the tower.
@vulcan Good idea.

and it really does freeze when i try to update the drivers! i think that is the problem
is there A.N.Y drivers that can run hd that wont make my computer lag and freeze and crash and go to a blue screen that can be installed and work with runescape hd?
OLD DETAIL IS SO GOD DANG ANNOYING
I've tried restarting computer playing hd in the client puting stuff lower but it just doesnt seem to work and i geuss my colour quality is 32 bit (highest)
am i doing something wrong?? do i need java? i want to play..........
also if you know anything else check back here and update your question if you have anything to add!
i also took it to bestbuy and they say they cant upgrade the drivers because it is too old... but is it possible to download drivers that actualy work from here?

I have a new NEC video projector that says it can display both 1080 and 720 HD content. I want to buy a DVD player (such as a blu ray) and an HDTV tuner that can provide the signal to the projector. However, the project does not have an HDMI input, but does have the 3 component inputs and S-video. My questions are these:

1. Will I still get 1080 or 720 output using the component connections from a blu ray or "converter" DVD player?

2. Can I buy a HDTV tuner to provide a signal to the projector and get HD output? (I don't want a full HDTV with a monitor because I can't move it)?

I am going to purchase a 30 inch monitor in the next day or so, however, and stuck as to which monitor would best suit me. The Apple display is not an option to me because of it's poor contrast ratio compared to other 30 inchers. I am interested in either the Samsung SynchMaster 305T, Dell 3007WFP, Gateway XHD3000, or the NEC MultiSync 3090WQXi. I wanted to know what would be the best purchase for me. For reference, color accuracy is extremely important to me because I work with graphics a LOT. Also, I game to.

I bought an NEC Versa E6200 laptop about 6 months ago. But a few months ago, something went wrong. Everytime I turn the laptop on, it will always display 640x480 resolution with 8-bit color quality. It happened just like that. The laptop is still functioning normally, only the screen would change back to 640x480 resolution. So I need to change it ack to my preferred resolution everytime.

Anybdy has any idea what happen to my laptop? Thanks a lot

I was looking at the NEC NP110 projector. It said that the native resolution was 800 x 600 but it could be resized to 1600 x 1200. Does that mean it can display 1600 x 1200 or does it mean that it would only display in 800 x 600? Does the resized image quality mean that there could be an input that is displaying 1600 x 1200 but it would only be displayed as 800x600 by the projector?

I recently formatted my hard drive and installed Windows XP, Service Pack 2. The problem that I am having is that the sound is too fast and/or very distorted as soon as I connect to the internet. Every sound, whether it is coming from my jukebox, DVD player, or any other source, including sound schemes in MY Computer, is scratchy, too fast or dragging. However, as soon as I am disconnected from the internet, my sounds are completely normal.

I have already cleaned the contacts on my sound card and uninstalled and re-installed my sound software and drivers.

what does the nec say about supporting emt when it is going to the ceiling from a display case(free standing) as is common in grocery stores?
i've seen it go up 12 feet before

I keep on getting this "disc burner or software not found" crap when I'm trying to burn a mp3 cd. It does the same on Windows Media Player and it's really starting to piss me off bad. Can't even burn music...wtf?? The drive can still play mp3 cds on here. I know the drive is compatible because I've been burning cds for years and plus it shows the drives name under preferences. Has anybody had a problem like this?? Thank god I'm getting a laptop soon cuz I don't wanna deal with this crap again. So anybody recognize this problem and know how to solve it? If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

The Broom, are you saying that if I just take the DVD - R disks back to the store and exchange them for DVD + R, it should work?
Rajinder, I do not understand your answer at all.
Siddanth, when I put the DVD-R disk in my tray, my pc did not react at all and Musicmatch seems to think the dvd is a cd with only 78 minutes capacity!!

I'm planning to upgrade my system memory for more performance.
Currently, I have 767 MB RAM. (128-256-128-256)
My motherboard only supports DDR.

I was thinking about replacing the two 128s with two 1 GBs. Will be a total of 2,5 GB DDR RAM.
But is this possible?

When scanning using http://www.crucial.com/, I see max total is 1 GB and max per slot is 512 MB. Is this true?
Also mentioned is that I don't have dual channel and 2 slots on my motherboard, which is wrong, so I don't know.

What is the fastest processor for socket 478 (mPGA)?

My pc froze while I was playing MW2 so I manually restarted, after that nothing was coming on the display although pc reboots..tried few times and changed the graphic port to the onboard graphics card and it works. Checking I found that Nvidia control panel was gone, so was the drivers. Device Manager shows that I'm using intel onboard display driver, the Nvidia card is not even displayed.

I have uninstalled and tried to install the drivers hoping Windows will detect the card, but nothing is working.

When I try to install the new Nvidia drivers (version 195.62) from the website I get an error message saying "Nvidia setup could not detect any drivers suitable for your installed hardware. Setup will quit now".

How do I get windows to detect my Nvidia 8600

Here are my specs: NEC Powermate X9360/ Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (2.83Ghz.12m.1333FSB) / 4GB DDR2 RAM / 320 Sata HD x3

Running Windows Vista Ultimate x64

The graphic card in error is - Nvidia GeForce 8600GT 512MB Turbo cache DVI/S-Video TV out.

ANy help will be really appreciated. Thanks
This is the actual error message I get when i try to install Nvidia drivers

"Nvidia setup could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware"

I want to upgrade my computer so I could run a bit more games (I got about 450 bucks (in my country's currency) to upgrade the computer).

Now I don't understand at ALL in computers, so please say "you need to upgrade your x (as in, memory, video card etc etc...)" not "upgrade to intel g-force x300" please remember my budget (450 bucks, and the prices here are a bit higher then in the US)

THANKS A HEAD!

Sometimes when I turn my computer on, and the "Welcome" screen comes on, I see a lot of "snow" and I see a blurred cursor that is shimmering. After a few seconds, this problem goes away and the screen is quite clear.

I'm looking to buy a professional style 30" computer display and I'm curious as to what the lowest price I would pay to get a 30" display is - used or otherwise. For reference I'm talking about top of the line HP monitors, NEC, LG, etc that support 2560 x 1600 (not just a TV that's a 30" or 32" that's only 1920 x 1080). Just trying to get an idea of what I should expect to spend.

I need to format my hard drive because of corrupted files, but first I need to back up my files and save my music onto cds or dvds. The problem is that when I ask Sonic or Musicmatch to burn my music onto cds, I get messages saying that no cd/dvd drive can be detected. I rebooted and tried again with same frustrating results. HELP!
